Margarita Recipe
  • Tequila type: Silver or reposado is traditionally considered to be the best tequila for margaritas, but any type of tequila works. Mezcal or sotol, will work as well, especially if you are rimming with our Chipotle Pineapple Lime.
  • Freshly-squeezed lime juice: I highly recommend juicing your own limes for the freshest flavor, versus using store-bought lime juice. If you are making a big batch, a citrus juicer will come in handy. If not, I simply use a fork in the middle and twist the lime around it.
  • Orange liqueur: Cointreau is my favorite to use, but Grand Marnier works  or you can use a good-quality Triple Sec, I mean who wants a low quality tasting drink right?
  • Agave: Now depending on the mood, I will use agave, the flavor compliments the tequila. However, on other days, I find that the orange liqueur adds just enough sweetness and flavor to not have to use agave. It is pretty much a personal preference. You can also use any sweetener of choice. I have lazily used flavored simple syrup and it still tastes good.

Instructions:

  1. Prep your glasses: Using a Tinis' & Things salt, run a lime wedge around the rim and then dip the rim in the salt, which works great on a plate or flat surface if you don't have a rimming container. Set the glass aside until ready to use. (Tip: I use a mix of sweetened lime juice and simple syrup to wet the glass, the salt tends to stick better)
  2. Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker or a mason jar: Combine the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, and a few ice cubes in your shaker or mason jar.
  3. Shake well: Shake for for about 15 seconds or until chilled.
  4. Taste: I always taste it at this point to see if it needs more lime or agave.
  5. Strain and serve. Place a few ice cubes in the serving glass, then strain the margarita mix over the ice and garnish with a slice of lime.
  6. Lick the salt and sip the delicious finished drink!
